Pentapolis of Cyrenaica
INSPIRED BY THE PENTAPOLI OF CYRENAICA
Born in the cosmopolitan postwar Benghazi, Athas is fascinated by the legends of the country and follows the trails of Hellenism to the Pentapolis (5 cities), creating 6 unique pieces of jewelry, for the country, Lybia, and the five ancient Greek colonies in North Africa, Cyrene, Hesperides, Barce, Taucheira or Arsinoe and Apollonia. Every piece, just like the country and each one of the cities, has a story to tell…
CYRENE
Cyrene, named after “Kyre” sacred spring of Apollon, was a water Nymph and a young virgin huntress, who lived in the woods of Mount Pelion and protected her father’s herd from beasts of prey. Apollo, saw her fighting a lion with only her hands and fell in love: he took Cyrene with his golden chariot to North Africa where they got married and she gave him a son.
CYRENE
“I am handmade, made with care and love by combining a glass bead, imitation of the rare and unique African Chevron pearls, with Indian recycled glass beads, glasses of an old chandelier and metal parts of a necklace from the 70’s in silver color. My clasp is antiallergic.”
